The Spanish beer lands in India

High custom duties in the brewing industry in India has not discouraged Spanish companies that are preparing for their entry into the country, optimistic about the promise of a growing market.

The three Spanish companies developing a strategy to enter the Indian market are: MAHOU, ESTRELLA GALICIA AND ESTRELLA DAMM.

In Aprilo Mahou-San Miguel Group announced the acquisition of 50% of the Indian company Arian Breweries & Distilleries, which has a brewery located in the town of Bhiwadi, about 80 kilometers from Delhi.

By producing the beer in India, the Group Mahou-San Miguel avoid taxing heavily the final price of the product, as in the Asian country tariffs on alcoholic beverages from abroad are very high.

The tariff that India currently applies to beer is 100%, but that high tax has not deterred Estrella Damm and Estrella Galicia to develop export trade.

While Estrella Galicia begins this week to be sold in Bombay, Estrella Damm will start its distribution in July in some of the major cities of India.
